Webelos is a 20 month program for 4th and 5th grade boys to prepare to join a Boy Scout troop while learning outdoors skills and participating in 20 different activity badges. A well-run group of Webelos is a gradual change from being an 'adult-run' den to being a 'boy-run' patrol ready to fit right into an adventurous scouting troop. This migration requires the parents and den leaders to give the scouts more and more control, decision-making power, and responsibility as they progress in skills, abilities, and maturity.
Webelos Advancement
The Webelos Program is a two year program for Fourth and Fifth Grade Boys. In both years, they work toward earning Webelos Activity Badges in twenty different areas, arranged in five groups. Fourth Grade Boys work toward the Webelos Badge. After earning the Webelos Badge. Fifth Graders, after earning the Webelos Badge, earn the Arrow of Light. In addition to the two rank badges, after earning the Webelos Badge, boys work toward the Compass Point Emblem and Metal Compass Points as they earn additional Activity Badges.

| Depending on which uniform the Webelos Cub Scout is wearing, he will earn one of these Webelos Badges. A Cub Scout who wears the blue Cub Scout uniform will earn the diamond-shaped Webelos Badge. A Cub Scout who wears the tan and olive uniform will earn the oval Webelos Badge. |
